"PUSHING UP POPPIES
Full Description:
The Red Poppy Festival planning committee is calling on Georgetown citizens and business owners to join in a Veteran’s Day planting of red poppy seeds to honor veterans.
The event will be on Veteran’s Day, on November 11 at 9:00 am, not only because this is the best time to plant poppy seeds, but also because the red poppy is the official flower of the American veteran.
The "Pushing Up Poppies" committee will distribute red poppy seeds and give planting tips to those who would like to help make the town red with poppies in April. Distribution will be at the Visitor Information Center on the downtown Square at 101 E. Seventh Street. Maps will be provided indicating key areas to be planted along roadsides, parks, and other areas.
