SKATE PARK EQUIPMENT REMOVED DUE TO VANDALISM

Full Description:

Skate park equipment at the McMaster Athletic Complex had to be removed by the parks and recreation staff recently due to ongoing problems with vandalism.

The skate ramp, grind boxes, and other equipment had been destroyed and covered with graffiti.

"We had to remove the equipment because it had been rendered unsafe," says Glenn Moss, recreation superintendent.

According to officials, someone had used a crowbar to bend a flange on a ramp, which left an exposed metal edge and that mostly graffiti, which parks employees spend hours each week removing, some of which was offensive, always manages to come back.

"It’s a shame that some kids misused the equipment and ruined it for the kids who used it responsibly," says Moss.
